Coleus
Versa Watermelon
Use Versa coleus in the sun…and in the shade, too! These well-branched, vigorous plants show off beautiful multi-patterned foliage that stays the center of attention all season, thanks to the very late-flowering habit. At last, a Coleus from seed that thrives in bright sunshine as well as shade! ‘Watermelon’ begins spring with bright red leaves edged in green. As the warm weather of summer arrives, the red turns a deep rosy-pink, and a tiny yellow margin opens up between the pink and the green, for a refreshing tricolored look! You’ll find it indispensable as a companion to all other plants, its unusual shade of green contrasting beautifully with every other color from yellow to red! This plant reaches about 30 to 32 inches high and spreads up to 24 inches wide. As with all Coleus, it makes a splendid houseplant as well as an outdoor choice, and is adaptable to garden or container. ‘Watermelon’ will eventually flower, but the bloom stalks can be pinched off at once to avoid detracting from the beauty of the foliage. Well-suited for cut flower arrangements.
